Youth Garden

In 2009 and 2010, Boys and Girls Club of Portland and the Urban Farm Collective  joined hands in a cooperative effort to teach children the values and merits of growing food. Educators from the Urban Farm Collective took a number of children from the Boys and Girls club to local gardens, donated to the collective by generous neighbors and the Boys and Girls club itself. There they taught the children the practical skills of gardening.

In 2011 and 2012,the UFC has joined forces with St. Andrews church and the Nativity school to expand our Youth Programming. We hope to get the children involved in planning and garden design and keep them engaged throughout the process from seed starting to harvesting, cooking and eating what we grow. We also strive to educate kids on the nutritional, economic, social and environmental benefits of gardening. We are actively seeking out folks with experience with youth gardening education to help us develop and implement our Youth Programming. Contact us if you are interested in being apart of this exciting  and rewarding project.
