Garden Manager Garden managers are stewards of one, generously donated, piece of urban land. Garden managers are responsible for the design, installation, maintenance and weekly harvest of their garden. They are also charged with providing a garden based education to the folks accepted to our garden apprenticeship program. There are a small amount of administrative duties; scheduling and announcing work parties and reporting volunteer hours. If you are not happy unless you are working the soil and teaching others how to best work the soil, join us. Please be an experienced gardener or farmer.
Garden Manager Liaison Works directly with the garden managers to ensure that the gardens are being staffed and have the resources they need to be successful. Conducts monthly garden manager meetings, end of season de-brief and pre-season ‘annual plan presentations’ meeting. Issues certificates of completion at end of season.
Construction Manager We need someone with solid carpentry skills to guide us through various garden-related building projects; chicken coops, raised beds, tool sheds, fencing, trellising, benches, irrigation, etc. The construction manager would be responsible for installing garden signs at new garden sites as they are added to the fold.
Director/Volunteer Coordinator Fields all in-coming UFC emails and maintains gmail contacts and groups. Prepares and presents at the annual OSALT meeting, prepares for and facilitates monthly planning team meetings. Provides guidance and support to organizers in charge of programming. Represents UFC at community meetings and tabling events.
Apprenticeship Program Director- Receives apprentice applications, organizes them in gmail and the dropbox, selects and assigns apprentices to specific gardens and checks in with them a couple times a year to see how things are going. Works with education coordinator to ensure quality educational opportunities for our apprentices. Conducts pre-season orientation, end of season de-brief and issues certificates of completion.
Fund Raiser- Responsible for raising necessary funds to support the UFC mission through grant selection and writing, maintaining donor data base, soliciting sponsors from business community and sending thank you letters.
Marketing Manager- Maintains the Mailchimp contact list, collects UFC stories and event announcements, writes and sends a monthly newsletter. Maintains our Facebook presence with regular posting and updates and writes a blog on the UFC page. Develops and maintains paper marketing materials; pamphlet, posters and tabling displays.
Event Coordinator Conceptualizes, organizes and executes three annual events of varying size. First, the Spring Bike Tour, plan and implement a bike ride to UFC gardens. This one is just for fun and typically brings out a lot of first-timers…functions well as an introduction to the collective and its ideals. Second, the Summer Preserving the Harvest event. Another fun event to bring the community together to process, dry and/or can the abundant Summer harvest and lastly, the Harvest Hoe Down Benefit, held in the Fall, our one and only fund raising event.
Education Coordinator- Solicits garden educators and funding to provide UFC participants with meaningful garden-based educational opportunities. Responsible for the marketing and promotion of educational opportunities. Works closely with the apprenticeship program and the youth garden.
Food Justice Workgroup- Develops and executes training to assure that UFC is making a positive contribution to food justice in the communities we serve. Builds mutually beneficial partnerships with organizations in our community who share our mission to have a more just food system. Represents UFC at food justice related events. Communicates with policy makers to propel our vision of a just and sustainable food system.
